Montréal to Host the Lions Clubs International Convention in 2021

MONTRÉAL, March 10, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal has been selected as the host city for the Lions Clubs International Convention to be held from June 25 to 30, 2021. This marks a major win for the city, as more than 15,000 delegates will attend the event, which is one of the biggest of its kind worldwide. The event is expected to generate $38.4 million in tourism spending to Montréal's economy, with more than 50,000 room nights.

Lions Clubs International supports humanitarian projects that benefit communities in more than 200 countries and geographic areas. With more than 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million members, Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Most of the convention's activities will take place at the Palais des congrès de Montréal and the Bell Centre.

"It is truly an honour for Montréal to be selected as the host city for this international convention uniting these remarkable philanthropic groups. Like Singapore and Milan, Montréal was chosen because it is cosmopolitan, modern and avant-garde," said Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal.

Tourisme Montréal would like to applaud the efforts of our partners that helped showcase Montréal's best features during the bid process, including the Lions Clubs of Montréal and Québec, the City of Montréal, the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the Hotel Association of Greater Montréal and Evenko.

"Securing a convention of this size and scope requires everyone from the business tourism industry to mobilize," says Raymond Larivée, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal. "Our city hosts more international events than any other city in the Americas, which means Montréal and the Palais are equipped to handle conventions attended by thousands of delegates who expect an exceptional quality of service."

"We work closely with several influential organizations in Montréal to attract other major events so that we can maximize economic benefits for the city and the province," added Mr. Lalumière.
