Leeds - Grenville Electors May Apply to Vote by Proxy
TORONTO, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - Eligible electors in the March 4 by-election in the Electoral District of Leeds - Grenville who are unable to cast their ballot in person on Election Day or at an advance poll may apply to vote by proxy. Proxy voting allows voters to appoint another elector residing in their electoral district to vote on their behalf.
Electors who ceased to live in Ontario within the two years prior to Election Day and whose last residence was in the Electoral District of Leeds - Grenville may be entitled to vote under certain conditions. Contact Elections Ontario for more information.
To receive a Certificate to Vote on behalf of the elector appointing the proxy, the proxy voter must bring the application, along with appropriate identification, to the local Returning Office before 8 p.m. on March 3 - the day before the by-election. The proxy voter must then provide proof of identity at the poll and present the Certificate to Vote to receive a ballot for the elector on whose behalf they are voting. An elector may not act as a proxy voter for more than two electors.
Applications to vote by proxy can be obtained from the Leeds - Grenville returning office or downloaded from the Elections Ontario website at www.elections.on.ca.
To be eligible to vote, on Election Day, March 4, a person must be:
- 18 years of age or older, and
- a Canadian citizen, and
- a resident of the Electoral District of Leeds - Grenville
