Advance voter turnout for Hamilton East--Stoney Creek, Scarborough Southwest and York--Simcoe

TORONTO, Aug. 29, 2026 /CNW/ -- Preliminary figures indicate that 4,746 voters (or 5.1 per cent of registered voters) in Hamilton East--Stoney Creek, 4,352 voters (or 5.2 per cent of registered voters) in Scarborough Southwest and 4,848 voters (or 4.4 per cent of registered voters) in York--Simcoe cast their ballot in advance of the September 3 by-election.

In comparison, 5,467 voters (or 6.1 per cent of registered voters) in Hamilton East--Stoney Creek, 4,061 voters (or 5.0 per cent of registered voters) in Scarborough Southwest and 7,463 voters (or 7.2 per cent of registered voters) in York--Simcoe voted before polling day in the 2025 general election.

With election day just around the corner, voters in these districts still have time to vote. You can cast your ballot at your local election office until September 2.

Everyone voting on election day, September 3, is encouraged to check their assigned voting location before they go to vote by entering their postal code in Voter Information Service at elections.on.ca, by downloading the Elections Ontario app or by consulting their Voter Information Card, which has been mailed to all registered voters in Hamilton East--Stoney Creek, Scarborough Southwest and York--Simcoe.

Voter Information Cards are intended to make the process easier on election day, but they are not a requirement to vote. Every Canadian citizen who is 18 years of age or older on September 3 and who is a resident of Hamilton East-- Stoney Creek, Scarborough Southwest or York--Simcoe is eligible to vote in the by-elections.

Important Dates for Voting

• Until September 2 – Vote before election day at your local elections office, or request a home visit, until 6 PM (Eastern Time) on September 2. Visit elections.on.ca for more information.
• Until September 2 – Use assistive voting technology at your local election office. It is also available by appointment on election day, September 3.
• September 3 – Vote on election day from 9 AM to 9 PM (Eastern Time). Visit voterinformationservice.elections.on.ca for your assigned voting location. 
• September 3 – Completed mail-in ballots must be received at Elections Ontario by 6 PM (Eastern Time) to be counted.

Political Advertising & Election Surveys

• September 2 and 3 – Political advertising blackout in effect.
• September 3 – Election surveys that have not previously been made public may not be published from 12:01 AM to 9 PM (Eastern Time).
