MONTREAL, March 30, 2026 /CNW/ -
When: Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: In front of 955 Avenue d'Anvers (corner of Stuart)
What: Tenants will be on hand to share their stories. Spokespeople from the RCLALQ and the Comité d'action de Parc-Extension (CAPE) will also be present. As darkness falls, a collective of artists will project messages protesting excessive rent hikes.
On March 31, 2026--the deadline for sending rent increase notices for most leases--the Regroupement des comités logement et associations de locataires du Québec (RCLALQ) invites the media to a rally in solidarity with tenants of an 18-building complex in Parc-Extension. This action in Montreal is part of the RCLALQ's annual campaign against rent hikes. It follows several actions that took place in Quebec City, Granby, and Montreal.
The building and tenants at 955 Avenue d'Anvers were chosen to highlight a reality experienced every year by thousands of tenants in Quebec, which the RCLALQ strongly denounces: receiving abusive rent increase notices. At 955 Avenue d'Anvers alone, tenants received rent increases of up to $150 per month (representing a 20% increase for some), without any renovations to justify these hikes.
It is worth noting that one of the new owners, Mr. Marc Lemieux, was a business partner of Mr. Henry Zavriyev, a well-known renovictor.
