MONTREAL, June 29, 2026 /CNW/ - On July 1st, also known as the "Moving Day", in the midst of an affordability crisis, the Coalition contre le logement cher (COLOC) will hold simultaneous demonstrations in Montréal and Québec City. Gathered at social housing sites and outside the offices of the Tribunal administratif du logement, tenants will call on parties aspiring to form the next government to commit to implementing real rent control, developing social housing on a scale that meets actual needs, and recognizing the right to housing in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Since the last election in 2022, average rents have jumped by nearly 30%. Rather than addressing the root causes of the crisis, the government is now actively contributing to it.
