ORANGEVILLE, ON, Dec. 2, 2025 /CNW/ - Striking North York Family Health Team (NYFHT) nurses and health-care professionals will hold an information picket on Wednesday at Health Minister Sylvia Jones' constituency office, calling for her to demand financial accountability from the board of the striking workers' employer.
The 44 NYFHT workers – ranging from nurses to pharmacists, social workers and more – have been on strike for seven weeks, seeking a fair, first collective agreement. The group provides care and services to approximately 95,000 patients.
The board of this family health team has a history of questionable financial management and have been subject of a forensic audit once; their decision to recently use new targeted government funding meant for retention and recruitment of front-line workers to instead balance a budget deficit has raised alarms again. Minister Jones has refused to step in to ensure this board redirects government funds where they were intended.
WHO: Striking primary care workers from North York Family Health Team.
WHAT: Information picket to call for accountability for taxpayer dollars and a fair first collective agreement for workers.
WHERE: Health Minister Sylvia Jones' Constituency Office, 180 Broadway, Orangeville
WHEN: Noon to 1:30 pm, Wednesday, December 3, 2025
