OTTAWA, ON, Oct. 8, 2025 /CNW/ - Judges from the Supreme Court of Canada will visit Sherbrooke, Quebec, on October 21, 22 and 23, 2025 as part of the Court's 150th anniversary commemorations.
Chief Justice Richard Wagner, Justice Mahmud Jamal and Justice Mary T. Moreau will take part in various events involving members of the public, high school and university students, the local legal and judicial communities, and the media.
Journalists wishing to cover the visit should consult the schedule below to know which sessions are open to media.
Tuesday, October 21
12:30 p.m. – Media Availability (open to media – preregistration is required)
OTL Gouverneur Hotel, Room King 3, 3131 King West Street, Sherbrooke, QC
The event will take place in person or via Zoom (hybrid format)
Chief Justice Richard Wagner will make brief remarks and answer questions from journalists. The Chief Justice will be joined by Supreme Court Justices Mahmud Jamal and Mary T. Moreau as well as the Chief Justice of Quebec, the Honourable Manon Savard. For media registration, please email [email protected]. Media attending virtually will be provided with a link to participate.
Afternoon – Visit with law students from Université de Sherbrooke (closed to media)
Judges will meet with students and professors at the Faculty of Law at the Université de Sherbrooke.
Evening – Event with the legal community (closed to media)
Judges will take part in an event with members of the local legal community.
Wednesday, October 22
Morning - Visit to the legal clinic of the École du Barreau (closed to media)
Judges will visit the legal clinic and meet with the students and the administration of the École du Barreau.
Afternoon - Visit with elected Chief and Councillors of the Odanak Abenaki (closed to media)
Judges will meet with the elected Chief and Councillors of the Odanak Abenaki.
5 p.m. – Public event: "Beyond the bench: a dialogue with Judges of the Supreme Court of Canada" (open to media – preregistration required)
Centennial Theatre at Bishop's University, 2600 College Street, Sherbrooke, QC
Chief Justice Wagner and Justices Mahmud Jamal and Mary T. Moreau will answer questions from the public on a wide range of topics during this town-hall style event. For media registration, please email [email protected].
Thursday, October 23
Morning – Visits with students (closed to media)
Judges will meet with students at three local schools and answer their questions on our judicial system.
