MONTRÉAL, Nov. 29, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Polytechnique Montréal cordially invites media representatives to attend the awarding of the third annual $30,000 Order of the White Rose scholarship to a Canadian woman engineering student who wishes to enrol in graduate studies (master's or PhD) at the institution of her choice in Canada or elsewhere in the world. The ceremony will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Galerie Rolland, on the 6th floor of the main Polytechnique building, in the presence of the Polytechnique community and with Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montréal, in attendance.
The Order of the White Rose was established in 2014 as part of the activities marking the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of December 6, 1989, which claimed the lives of 14 young women and injured several others. Polytechnique created this scholarship as a tribute to the victims as well as the injured, their families, faculty members, employees and students who are forever affected by this tragedy.
A prestigious jury composed of principals, presidents or deans of Canadian universities and led by Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Principal and Chair of the Polytechnique Board of Directors and Polytechnique's first female civil engineering graduate, carefully reviewed all applications and came to a unanimous choice.
To present the scholarship to the new recipient, interim Polytechnique Chief Executive Officer François Bertrand will be joined by Ms. Plante and the two Order of the White Rose ambassadors: Ms. Thibodeau-DeGuire and Nathalie Provost, a Polytechnique graduate who was injured in the tragedy.
