maskekosihk (Enoch Cree Nation) advances major housing development to bring more members home
Development will enable approximately 166 new homes for Enoch Cree Nation members
ENOCH CREE NATION, AB, Oct. 30, 2026 /CNW/ -- Enoch Cree Nation is moving forward with a major housing development that will improve quality of life and create more opportunities for members and families to live in their home community.
The development will prepare land for approximately 166 new homes, helping address a housing wait list of approximately 350 families. Homes will be leased exclusively to Enoch Cree Nation members at affordable rates, with options for larger, multigenerational households and smaller homes for Elders.
The development reflects the Nation's commitment to practical, long-term solutions that respond to members' needs. By expanding access to housing and creating more opportunities for members to live within the community, Enoch Cree Nation is investing in stronger families, community well-being and future generations.
The project is supported by a $30 million loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) to finance housing-enabling infrastructure, including roads, water and wastewater systems, utilities, site preparation and solar panel installations.
"For Enoch Cree Nation, housing is about more than a place to live. It keeps families connected to their community, culture and one another. This investment will help bring more of our people home, strengthen our community and create a place where our children, families and Elders can thrive for generations to come."
okimaw (Chief) Cody Thomas, Enoch Cree Nation
The development will also create construction employment opportunities for community members and support Enoch Cree Nation's long-term housing and community growth objectives.
"This investment is about building the foundation for Enoch Cree Nation's future. By putting the infrastructure in place for new housing, we are supporting community growth, creating economic opportunities and strengthening long-term capacity within the Nation."
Chase Morin, CEO, River Cree Ventures
The project builds on the growing partnership between Enoch Cree Nation and the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
"This investment builds on our growing partnership with Enoch Cree Nation and supports the Nation's long-term vision for housing, infrastructure and economic development. By financing the infrastructure needed for new homes, we are helping address housing pressures, support community growth and create the conditions for future generations to thrive on reserve."
Ehren Cory, CEO, Canada Infrastructure Bank
The $30 million loan is the CIB's largest investment to date in an Indigenous housing project and contributes to its goal of investing at least $3 billion in Indigenous infrastructure.
The First Nations Finance Authority (FNFA) is also providing funding for the broader housing development, complementing the CIB investment and helping advance Enoch Cree Nation's long-term housing objectives.
"Enoch Cree Nation is demonstrating what true self-determination looks like in action. By leveraging and reinvesting its own-source revenues, the Nation is creating more than housing, they are building the foundation for long-term economic self-sufficiency, community prosperity, and generational wealth. FNFA is proud to be Enoch Cree Nation's long-standing lender of choice, providing access to affordable capital that supports Nation-building projects and advances the vision of economic independence and self-governance."
Ernie Daniels, President and CEO, First Nations Finance Authority
