CANADIANS CAN NOW BINGE THE UK'S RECORD-BREAKING REALITY SERIES EXCLUSIVELY ON HAYU
TORONTO, Oct. 25, 2018 /CNW/ - hayu – As of today, Love Island FOMO is officially over for Canadians thanks to hayu – the all-reality subscription video on-demand (SVOD) service from NBCUniversal.
For the first time, and exclusively on hayu, Canadians will be able to experience Love Island UK: the ITV series that attracted Britain's second biggest millennial TV audience this year outside of World Cup matches. During ITV's first-time airings, the series' viewing average rose to five million viewers per episode across TV and non-TV viewing.* Celebrity fans of the show include Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, Margot Robbie, and Paris Hilton. Plus, one couple from the series has gone on to have a Love Island baby!
The Love Island fever is real, and it's coming to Canada exclusively on hayu!
So what makes this series so popular?
The path to true love is littered with unexpected twists and turns: Imagine a group of twenty-something singles placed in a luxury villa, looking for a chance to find love. When the Islanders first arrive, they are coupled with complete strangers sharing everything including a bed! Those not in a couple are at risk of being dumped from the island and new Islanders arrive at the villa at different stages.
When the show aired live in the UK, local residents could vote for who should stay, who should go, and which couple should be sent on a date, which adds to the tension Islanders reflect on-screen. In a final twist, one half of the winning couple is awarded £50,000 and he or she must decide whether to keep it all or share it with his or her new partner.
Love Island UK has sold as a finished show to more than 75 territories, with eight additional broadcasters launching their own local version, including CBS which will launch a US edition next year, produced by ITV Entertainment. This series is so huge that a version of Love Island will be on air somewhere around the world every day between today and Christmas.
