MONTREAL, Aug. 5, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - L'Oréal Canada employees participated in the 6th L'Oréal Citizen Day held in Montreal on July 15 and in Toronto on July 28, in which they dedicated one day to helping local community organizations.
This year, with the help of Volunteer West Island, L'Oréal Canada partnered with Moisson Montréal, the largest food bank in Canada; Welcome Hall Mission, which actively works at reducing poverty in the city; and Héritage Laurentien, whose mission is the protection and enhancement of the natural environment. L'Oréal Canada employees took part in concrete actions such as collecting and sorting food and clothing, gardening, cleaning and beautifying green spaces throughout the day. At Welcome Hall Mission, for instance, almost 1000 backpacks were assembled and prepared for underprivileged children so they could be ready for back to school.
In addition, several employees from the L'Oréal Canada Distribution Center in Saint-Laurent, prepared 1580 L'Oréal products kits which were distributed to 13 shelters across Montreal.
In Toronto, employees prepared food baskets at the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank which supports close to 200 food programs across Toronto. A food drive was also organized by employees at the L'Oréal Academy.
« The collective Citizen Day effort has been gathering momentum over the last 6 years with a growing participation rate which makes it possible to organize initiatives that have an amazing impact and foster enduring partnerships with local associations," said Frank Kollmar, President & CEO of L'Oréal Canada. "At L'Oréal we are fully convinced that we have an important role to play as a corporate citizen."
Last year, over 24,000 employees participated in Citizen Day worldwide, reaching 32,000 beneficiaries in 420 different associations. L'Oréal employees from all the group's entities - subsidiaries, headquarters, research centers, plants, etc. - participated in a wide variety of activities, including environmental actions in Venezuela, renovations of a children's association in Lebanon, participation in a run supporting cancer survivors in Denmark, and the creation of a natural science outdoor camp for children in Taiwan.
Citizen Day was launched internationally in 2010 and is now one of the main initiatives of L'Oréal's CSR program "Sharing Beauty with All". It aims to embody L'Oréal's commitment to social responsibility during one day of collective voluntary action by its employees.
