Harper Government Congratulates Woodstock First Nation on Completion of Water Infrastructure

Water supply system upgrades provide water to 287 people in 130 homes

WOODSTOCK FIRST NATION, NB, March 19, 2014 /CNW/ - Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Minister Bernard Valcourt congratulated the Woodstock First Nation in western New Brunswick on completing its water supply system upgrades. Since fiscal year 2007-2008, the Government of Canada has invested more than $2.8 million into the upgrades that will help ensure safe drinking water for the community.

Quick Facts:

• The work, carried out over four years, included upgrades to the Woodstock First Nation water treatment and distribution system and covered the following:
• re-configuration of well;
• discharge piping;
• implementation of new Pressure Reducing Valve chamber;
• assessment and rehabilitation of existing wells;
• hydrant installation and repairs;
• pumphouse fire pump modifications;
• process and control equipment upgrades;
• installation of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; and,
• twinning of the current water storage reservoir.
• Funding for the upgrades came from Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada's First Nation Water and Wastewater Action Plan (FNWWAP).
