Manoir Belle Plage, the Gaspésiana, Microbrasserie Le Naufrageur and the Vieux Moulin receive Government of Canada support totalling $369,000

Four businesses in Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie were able to deliver projects that involved increasing their production capacity, starting up new activities and modernizing their facilities thanks to financial contributions that will generate total investments of more than $2 million.
The contributions were announced today by Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.
The four recipient enterprises are Manoir Belle Plage ($150,000) and Microbrasserie Le Naufrageur (website in French only) [$50,000], in Carleton-sur-Mer, and the Gaspésiana ($125,000) and the Vieux Moulin (website in French only) [$44,000], in Sainte-Flavie. They have been granted a total of $369,000 in financial assistance, in the form of repayable contributions, through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program.
Communities need to build on innovation to strategically diversify and develop lasting regional competitive advantages. Supporting community transition and diversification is therefore a Government of Canada priority.

Repayable contribution of $125,000 out of a total investment of $250,000 The project consists in modernizing the accommodations of the Gaspésiana tourist facility and improving the quality of its service offer. The activities include renovating the washrooms and refitting and upgrading some of the rooms. The project will create one new job and provide more hours of work for the part-time employees. The Gaspésiana provides lodging in 46 units year-round and in 10 additional units in a separate wing during peak season. The establishment, which obtained a three-star rating from the Corporation de l'industrie touristique du Québec, offers a variety of services to its clientele: an 85-seat dining room, two conference rooms and a health centre. The Sainte-Flavie establishment was founded in 1948. |
Manoir Belle Plage |
Repayable contribution of $150,000 out of a total investment of $1,472,823 The project consisted in carrying out capital work to improve and increase the Carleton-sur-Mer establishment's tourism offering. It involved the addition of 15 new accommodation units, bringing the total number of units to 39, and carrying out some landscaping work. The project has created two jobs. Manoir Belle Plage, a 39-unit four-star hotel, has been in business for over 50 years. Apart from its accommodation service, it has a restaurant and rents out rooms for meetings and receptions. It also offers golf, theatre, hiking and snowmobiling packages. |
Microbrasserie Le Naufrageur Inc. |
Repayable contribution of $50,000 out of a total investment of $247,871 The project consisted in developing new products, including a line of desserts and beer chocolate, gelato and sorbet, as well as a production method for pre-baking and deep freezing products. The project activities included the fit-up of a freezer room, a cold room and a preparation room, and the acquisition of production and freezing equipment. The Carleton-sur-Mer microbrewery has been in business for 10 years and specializes in the manufacture of specialty beer, providing its clientele with 15 different beers distributed through 500 points of service across Quebec. In 2014, the Naufrageur acquired the Mie Véritable Inc. bakery, whose main products are 18 kinds of fresh baked bread and pastries, which it sells on the premises and distributes through eight grocery stores and a restaurant in the area. |
The Vieux Moulin |
Repayable contribution of $44,000 out of a total investment of $167,610 The project consisted in increasing its mead production by expanding the mead house, upgrading the electrical system and installing a refrigeration unit. The Vieux Moulin is a family business founded nearly 40 years ago. A producer of a variety of honey from its beginnings, the business has been developing and marketing its mead since 1994. The alcoholic beverages are sold on the premises and in various points of service, including the SAQ. |
