Crafting Type workshop comes to Toronto to reveal the dark art of typography, May 9-11
TORONTO, April 24, 2014 /CNW/ - Apple Computers co-founder Steve Jobs was a fan. So are many artists, architects and illustrators. Designing typefaces is an incredibly intricate and absorbing creative process that draws many to the art of typography.
Crafting Type is an intense three-day workshop where absolute beginners can learn how to design typefaces and where intermediate type designers augment their skills. The workshop is run around the world in cities large and small, and next month Centennial College is bringing it to Toronto.
Whether you're contemplating a career as a type designer or you want to add it to your bundle of professional skills, this type design workshop is a great way to deepen your understanding of typography and how it can set you apart from other graphic designers and practitioners.
Type can seem like a dark art, shrouded in mystery. Crafting Type deconstructs the notion that typography and type design is impenetrable. The team of professional type designers has an approach to teaching that is hands-on, encouraging, interactive – and fun!
Instructors Octavio Pardo and Aoife Mooney reveal the trade secrets for participants, who gain the confidence to select and use the right type for any given task. No previous experience in type design is required. There is a fee for the three-day workshop, with discounts for professional members and students.
