MONTREAL, Sept. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today addressed Canada's international aviation partners to reiterate Canada's commitment to aviation security during the High-level Conference on Aviation Security hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Officials from more than 130 member countries were in attendance.
"Canada is proud to play a leadership role within ICAO and will remain a strong supporter as we tackle existing and emerging challenges," said Minister Lebel. "While much has been accomplished, work needs to continue to enhance the safety of the civil aviation system."
In his speech, the Minister underlined Canada's commitment to finding practical and lasting solutions relating to aviation security. Minister Lebel also expressed Canada's continuous support to ICAO and its important role as the multilateral body for achieving international aviation goals.
Canada has one of the largest civil aviation systems in the world, with flights to many international destinations. Transport Canada is actively involved at ICAO to make sure Canada's interests and positions are represented on the international stage.
