Brunswick Smelter Workers to Start Negotiations
BATHURST, N.B., Nov. 29, 2013 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7085, representing 300 members from Restigouche to Northumberland Counties who work at the Brunswick Smelter in Belledune, is preparing for its first round of negotiations with global mining giant Glencore.
Glencore purchased the Brunswick Smelter as part of a multinational buyout of Xstrata earlier this year.
USW Local 7085 hopes to start contract discussions with Glencore by the New Year. The existing collective agreement expires on Feb. 28, 2014.
