All-New 2020 Subaru Legacy Comes Well-Equipped, Competitively Priced

MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 19, 2019 /CNW/ - The all-new 2020 Subaru Legacy will come loaded with content and competitively priced when it goes on sale this fall.
Set to shake up the midsize segment just as it did when it first launched 30 years, the new Legacy continues to offer standard full-time Symmetrical all-wheel drive while maintaining a lower starting MSRP than many of its front-wheel drive competitors.
The Legacy takes its value proposition even further in its seventh generation, and comes packed with the latest comfort, convenience and safety features — including Subaru's EyeSight advanced driver-assist system and LED headlights, now standard on all Legacy models.
The 2020 Legacy offers world-class safety thanks to its Subaru Global Platform underpinnings and is powered by the choice of new engines that offer varying levels of performance while placing an emphasis on efficiency. The first, a 2.5-litre SUBARU BOXER engine, has been virtually entirely overhauled with 90 per cent new parts, as well as direct injection and auto start/stop for efficient operation and reduced emissions. The new 2.5-litre engine produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of torque.
The seventh-generation sedan also marks the return of the turbocharged GT models to the Legacy range, this time combining with the Subaru Global Platform to offer a sporty and engaging driving experience while remaining smooth, comfortable and quiet.
For those in need of additional performance, the 2020 Legacy offers an available turbocharged 2.4-litre SUBARU BOXER that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. Turbocharged Legacy models benefit from a broad torque curve, achieving peak output between 2,000 rpm and 4,800 rpm.
Turbocharged Legacy models are capable of sprinting from a standing start to 100 km/h in just over six seconds. More than just fast in a straight line, the 2020 Legacy offers a ride that is as sporty and agile as it is smooth and comfortable thanks to its standard active torque vectoring for improved handling and cornering performance, as well as its highly rigid structure.
Stronger, Smarter Structure
While built to protect occupants in the event of a crash, the Subaru Global Platform that underpins the new Legacy, along with an increase in the use of structural adhesive and ultra-high tensile-strength steel, also contribute to improved responsiveness and driving dynamics. In fact, torsional- and front-suspension rigidity increase 70 per cent and front lateral flexural- and rear-subframe rigidity increase 100 per cent compared to the previous Legacy's platform.
The migration to the Subaru Global Platform also results in a Legacy that's only slightly larger overall than its predecessor while offering increased space for vehicle occupants and cargo. Almost all measurable interior dimensions have been expanded to improve passenger comfort, including rear seat legroom — which now leads the segment— while the cargo area has lengthened for increased usability and versatility. All that while boasting a body with exterior dimensions only 38 millimetres longer than the previous Legacy.
In the event of a collision, the new Legacy's body absorbs over 40 per cent more energy in front/side crashes than the outgoing model.
Serious About Safety
Of course, it's Subaru's goal not only to reduce the impact of collisions but also to prevent them where possible, and the 2020 Legacy benefits from the brand's roster of award-winning safety features that aim to do just that.
For increased safety and peace of mind, Subaru's EyeSight safety suite, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lane-keep assist, lead vehicle start alert and more, is standard on all Legacy models.
This latest generation of EyeSight also introduces Lane Centring Assist — a new lane-centring function integrated into the car's adaptive cruise control system. While drivers must maintain control of the vehicle at all times and keep their hands on the steering wheel, this new functionality uses the EyeSight system's stereoscopic cameras to recognize lane markings and the preceding vehicle to stay centred within the vehicle's lane of travel.
Safety is elevated even further thanks to the available segment-exclusive DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System. This award-winning system uses facial recognition software to identify signs of driver fatigue or driver distraction and works alongside Subaru's EyeSight driver assist suite to reduce the likelihood of a collision. Utilizing a camera mounted atop the dash, DriverFocus can register and recognize as many as five drivers and remember their individual pre-sets for seat position and door mirror angle, among others.
Subaru STARLINK Connected Services
Placing a further emphasis on safety and convenience is the introduction for the first time in Canada of Subaru STARLINK Connected Services. Available on most trims, the system comes with a free three-year trial subscription and uses the nationwide 4G LTE cellular network — and completely separate from customers' mobile devices — to allow customers to stay connected to their vehicles while also allowing them to receive important information to keep them safe.
Integrated directly into the vehicle, the system uses voice-response technology with the addition of live assistance for features such as Advanced Automatic Collision Notification in the event of a collision, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Service.
Customers utilizing these services will be able to receive automatic emergency assistance in the event of a collision, remotely access vehicle features, schedule service appointments with dealers and receive point of interest navigation information among much more.
Other features include remote services, such as remote engine start (including climate control and heated seats), remote lock and unlock, and remote vehicle locator, as well as vehicle alerts such as speed, boundary or curfew alerts that can all be controlled directly from customers' smart devices.
Six Trims to Choose From
The 2020 Subaru Legacy is available in six trim levels in Canada: Convenience, Touring, Limited, Premier, Limited GT and Premier GT.
Priced at just $26,395, the Legacy Convenience offers an extensive list of standard features, including Symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive, EyeSight with Lane Centring Assist, a unique infotainment system that utilizes dual seven-inch touchscreens that split multimedia and HVAC controls, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, among many others.
Automatic climate control is also standard on the entry-level Legacy, as are heated front seats, including the 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, auto up/down driver and front passenger windows, automatic door locks, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity and audio streaming, dual rear USB ports, automatic LED headlights with High Beam Assist, an electronic parking brake and Auto Vehicle Hold.
Moving to the Touring trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, auto-dimming side-view and rearview mirrors, a power tilting and sliding sunroof, a proximity key with push-button start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto up/down on all windows, and Subaru STARLINK Connected Services with a free three-year trial subscription.
The Legacy Touring also adds Reverse Automatic Braking and the Subaru Side/Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD) system, which includes blind-spot detection, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, while upgrading the infotainment system to a vertically-mounted 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen that incorporates vehicle, HVAC and multimedia controls. The Legacy Touring is priced at $30,295.
Priced at $34,295, the Legacy Limited adds integrated navigation to the 11.6-inch infotainment system, as well as a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, driver's seat and mirror memory function and adjustable driver's seat cushion length. The Limited trim also adds an eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated rear outboard seats, rear console HVAC vents, steering-responsive headlights and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Premier trim, meanwhile, is priced at $36,295 and adds Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a centre console-mounted CD player, front-view camera and power-folding satin chrome side-view mirrors, as well as Subaru's award-winning DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System.
Moving to the turbocharged GT trims brings with them the same features found in the Limited and Premier models, with the addition of the 260-horsepower SUBARU BOXER engine, dual chrome exhaust tips and GT badging on the trunk lid and floor mats. The Legacy Limited GT is priced at $37,095, while the Premier GT is priced at $39,095.
The 2020 Legacy will arrive at Subaru dealers across Canada this fall.
