ABC Life Literacy Canada expands free Money Matters resources ahead of Financial Literacy Month
FrançaisTORONTO, Oct. 27, 2026 /CNW/ -- In celebration of Financial Literacy Month this November, ABC Life Literacy Canada is expanding its Money Matters program with new resources designed to help adults build practical financial skills and confidence for everyday life.
Since 2011, Money Matters has provided free, introductory financial literacy education to adults across Canada, reaching more than 125,000 learners. Developed by ABC Life Literacy Canada with support of founding sponsor TD Bank Group (TD), and designed with the expertise of literacy practitioners, the program makes financial education accessible to adults with a wide range of literacy, learning and financial backgrounds.
"Financial literacy is about more than understanding numbers. It's about having the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about your money," says Alison Howard, Executive Director of ABC Life Literacy Canada. "With the cost of everyday life putting continued pressure on Canadians, accessible financial education can give people practical skills they can use right away and throughout their lives."
This year, Money Matters is adding several new learning resources to its existing collection of free workbooks, activities, online courses and videos. New resources include video lessons on planning for unexpected expenses and predicting income, activities exploring debt and multi-level marketing businesses, and a new self-employment workbook focused on starting a rural business.
The new resources build on a comprehensive financial literacy program covering topics such as spending plans, banking basics, borrowing, saving, managing debt and building credit. Resources are designed to be practical, approachable and flexible enough to meet learners where they are.
Money Matters is available to Canadian organizations interested in providing financial literacy training and resources to their learners or clients. Resources are used in communities across Canada and are full of activities that have been adapted according to the needs of individual groups, such as Indigenous communities and people with diverse abilities. Workshops can be facilitated by the group delivering the program, or with the optional support of local TD employees who volunteer their time.
"Building financial strength isn't about one decision. It happens over time, as we build skills and knowledge that can help us navigate different moments in our lives," says Alicia Rose, AVP Global Social Impact, Corporate Citizenship, TD Bank Group. "Money Matters helps make that learning practical and accessible, and TD is proud to continue supporting ABC Life Literacy Canada in helping more people across the country put that learning into practice."
Financial Literacy Month is led by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and is an opportunity to help Canadians build the knowledge and confidence to make financial decisions. This year's theme, "Talk Money," encourages meaningful conversations about the financial moments that affect our well-being. Talking openly can help people learn from others, understand their options and find trusted information when they need it.
Through Money Matters, ABC Life Literacy Canada helps adults across the country build practical money skills and approach those conversations with greater confidence.
