Breakfast Club of Canada Opens its 500th Ontario Breakfast Club This School Year
TORONTO, Nov. 4, 2014 /CNW/ - This morning, Breakfast Club of Canada, in partnership with Minute Maid®, celebrated the 500th Ontario breakfast club opening this year. A healthy morning meal is now guaranteed to over 90,000 students in Ontario schools.
The Hon. Liz Sandals, Minister of Education and the Hon. Tracy MacCharles, Minister of Children and Youth Services, joined St. Joseph College School students for a nutritious start to their school day. In collaboration with provincial support to student nutrition programs, Breakfast Club of Canada provides equipment, training, and additional funding to schools.
Breakfast Club of Canada's national network has continued to grow every year since its first program opened in 1994. By providing students with a healthy breakfast in a supportive environment, a breakfast club provides connections between a healthy meal and lifestyle. The Toronto Foundation for Student Success and The Angel Foundation for Learning are the local partners with Breakfast Club of Canada.
Breakfast at school costs as little as $1 day, but provides substantial benefit to students, schools, and communities as a whole. Breakfast Club of Canada is pleased to reach such a milestone and is excited for the continued success of their students.
"I want to thank the Breakfast Club of Canada for their commitment to giving all students the opportunity to start their day with a nutritious breakfast that follows the Canada Food Guide. A healthy, active lifestyle, both inside and outside the classroom is essential to promoting student well-being and ensuring students are ready to learn." – Hon. Liz Sandals, Ontario Minister of Education
"Nutritious breakfasts are critical to the success of every child. That's why our government has committed an additional $10 million annually to our existing $20 million Student Nutrition Program -an annual investment of $32 million by 2016-17. We want all Ontario children to reach their full potential and help build a stronger, more prosperous Ontario." – Hon. Tracy MacCharles, Ontario Minister of Children and Youth Services
"We are excited to expand to more Ontario communities and help more students succeed. We know the benefits of a Breakfast Club go far beyond the school walls. Evidence has shown that schools with breakfast programs see improvements in attendance and punctuality, as well as in behavior and concentration." - Susan Wright, Breakfast Club of Canada
"Together we are inspiring students to learn and grow, and giving them the best start to their school day. We are proud to donate Minute Maid® juices to Breakfast Clubs across Canada, and pleased more Ontario students will benefit from this excellent program." – John Guarino, President, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada
