One Ocean Expeditions presents Explore; a weekly podcast series featuring interviews with Canada's modern-day explorers. These exceptional Canadians recount what inspires them to take risks to explore Earth and beyond.
New episodes will be uploaded every Thursday at 3pm EDT, starting on April 11th, 2019.
David McGuffin – Host of Explore – is a veteran broadcast journalist and foreign correspondent who has reported from over 40 countries for CBC, CTV, NPR, NBC and PBS.
Dr. Roberta Bondar – Canada's first female astronaut and first neurologist in space will talk about moon bases, missions to Mars and the impact of space travel on the human body.
Jill Heinerth – The world's leading female underwater cave diver talks about swimming with polar bears and how tiny fish saved her life in an Antarctic ice cave.
Ray Zahab – This ultra-marathoner and extreme adventurer talks about his journey from being a pack a day smoker to running across the worlds harshest deserts and trekking across polar regions.
In today's digital age, most of us can travel around the world from the comfort of our living room couch, but there are some who still push the boundaries of exploration in our modern world. In 1992, a young doctor from Sault St Marie strapped herself into a pressurized spaceship and risked it all to go on a space mission. Roberta Bondar's reasons for pursuing space travel are remarkably similar to that of The RCGS Explorer-in-Residence Jill Heinerth, who ventures deep into our planet's underwater places and has discovered creatures no human has seen before. The solo treks of Explorer-in-Residence Adam Shoalts have taken him all across Canada, leading him to discover unmarked waterfalls and bringing him face to face with polar bears. Canadian Geographic's 10-episode podcast series Explore will introduce listeners to 10 of Canada's greatest explorers, allowing audiences a peek into their world and what drives them.
