Mr. Javier San Juan is the Recipient if the Abe Limonchik Intercultural Award, Individual Category

MONTREAL, Dec. 12, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - L'Oreal Canada is extremely proud to announce that the company's President and CEO, Mr. Javier San Juan, is the recipient of the prestigious 2012 Abe Limonchik Intercultural Award. The award recognizes the outstanding work of an individual, a non-profit organization and a private sector company. This distinction is a reflection of their commitment to the development of intercultural relations and the promotion of diversity in their respective fields.

Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum presented the Abe Limonchik award to three recipients during a ceremony held at the Montreal City Hall earlier this week. Javier San Juan was presented with the Abe Limonchik Individual Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to improving intercultural relations and to the promotion of diversity.

Among the initiatives Mr. San Juan supports, the Montreal mayor mentioned the L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science" program which promotes the role of women researchers and Mr. San Juan's active participation as a Board Member at the Tolerance Foundation (now known as Ensemble for the Respect of Diversity) an organization which works closely with young Montrealers to promote respect for differences, in order to foster an environment free of discrimination and bullying.

"It is an honor and a privilege to receive this award as diversity is at the heart of my and L'Oréal Canada's values" said San Juan.

It is worth noting that L'Oréal Canada's current workforce is composed of 55 different nationalities, 37% of which are part of Generation Y (1980-95), 36% from Generation X (1967-79) and 27% from the Baby Boomer Generation (1946-66). Furthermore, L'Oréal Canada's Executive Committee is 45% female and 55% male, the company's Strategic Committee is 55% female and 45% male and finally the ratio at the Director level is 42% female and 58% male.

"Mr. San Juan, Ms. Aleksanian of the Centre d'appui aux communautés immigrantes, and Mr. Arriagada of Pimiento have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of intercultural relations and the development of ethnocultural diversity in Montreal. It is an honor and a privilege for Montreal to be able to rely on such individuals, organizations and companies who, like Mr. Limonchik, make the promotion of diversity and intercultural relations a priority. Mr. Limonchik, who would be proud to see his work perpetuated" said Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum.
