Minister Shea Commemorates Royal Canadian Air Force at Summerside Ceremony

SUMMERSIDE, PE, June 21, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue and Minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced up to $3,750 in federal funding for a commemorative ceremony in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Held at the Air Force Heritage Park, the event paid tribute to the brave individuals who serve and have served in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

"Throughout our history, the Royal Canadian Air Force has courageously answered the call of duty to defend our shared values, no matter the danger or difficulty," said Minister Blaney. "Our Government is honouring the sacrifices and achievements of the airmen and airwomen who played and continue to play such a vital role in times of war, armed conflict and peace."

"As an Islander, I have a true appreciation for the importance and history of the aerospace industry in Prince Edward Island and of Islanders' contributions to Canada's military efforts over the years," said Minister Shea. "I applaud the Air Cadet League of Prince Edward Island for organizing today's event and reminding us of the bravery and legacy of Canadian airmen and airwomen."
