SASKATOON, June 22, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Steven
Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie,
Kelly Block, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, today
joined members of the Montgomery Place Community Association for a war
memorial unveiling ceremony to honour Veterans of the Second World War
and of the Korean War.
"Memorials across the country tell the story of our communities and
honour our nation's truest heroes," said Minister Blaney. "Our
Government is proud to support these projects and ensure that our
Veterans are recognized and remembered by future generations."
The Montgomery Place Community Association is receiving up to $4,692
through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community War Memorial Program to
assist with the construction of the Montgomery Place Veterans Monument.
The new monument in Montgomery Park commemorates the Veterans of the
Second World War and of the Korean War who settled in the community of
Montgomery (acquired under the Veterans' Land Act by the Department of Veterans Affairs after the Second World War)
following their years of service. The names of 557 Veterans, who
settled in the community between 1946 and 1977 following their service
in the Canadian Armed Forces, will be etched on the four sides of the

Block. "I commend the Montgomery Place Community Association for
helping honour the men and women who served Canada in the Second World
War and the Korea War."
