Youth Learn Survivor Skills and Leadership at Scouts Canada's Adventurous Summer Camp Program

Registration for Scouts Canada's 125 Summer Camps is Open to Scouts and Non-Scouts

OTTAWA, June 14, 2016 /CNW/ - Summer vacation is just around the corner and many parents are looking for meaningful activities to enroll their kids in. It's not too late to late to register for summer camp.  From traversing obstacle courses, to camping out under the stars, to developing wilderness survival skills, Scouts Canada's summer camp programs gives thousands of youth a wealth of first-time adventures and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Running throughout July and August, Scouts Canada offers 125 different co-ed day and overnight summer camp programs across Canada for youth ages five and older, many of which are open to non-Scouts. Varying from camp-to-camp, the programs provide a broad range of activities such as rappelling, spelunking, boating (including sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding), and arts and crafts. Highlights include:

Fraser Valley Summer Camp  (Langley, BC)Fraser Valley Summer Camp is a weeklong overnight camp located in the heart of the beautiful Campbell Valley River basin at Camp McLean, Scouts Canada's 50 acre campground. Campers ages nine to 14 will experience the great outdoors, create lasting memories, and participate in adventurous activities like zip lining, hiking, archery, canoeing and swimming. Campers will also enjoy a wilderness outback experience, where youth sleep outdoors; learn survival skills including shelter building, campfire building, using a compass and preparing dinner; and also play fun games. Camp Wolf Howl (Roberts Creek, BC) – Camp Wolf Howl is a weeklong overnight camp located on the Sunshine Coast in a 210 acre forested campground with 1.2 km of beach along the Georgia Straight. Campers ages eight to 12 learn wilderness survival skills, spend a night sleeping under the stars and enjoy a wealth of exciting activities including zip lining, archery competitions, obstacle and ropes challenge courses, orienteering, GPS navigation, pioneering, hiking, canoeing, scavenger hunts, astronomy courses, beach combing and more. Scouts Canada also offers leadership and counsellor training programs which include certification in a variety of courses including Bronze Medallion and Cross, standard first aid, search and rescue, and belay.
