TORONTO, May 13, 2020 /CNW/ - Young Mining Professionals Toronto ("YMPT") is pleased to announce a new scholarship initiative under its YMP Scholarship Fund ("YMP Fund") for 2020: the Mining Lottery Scholarship (the "Lottery"). The Lottery is currently funded with $15,000 and is seeking to grow its impact with new partners. The Lottery is a part of YMP Fund's broader $60,000 scholarship program for 2020, the details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.
About the Mining Lottery Scholarship
The Lottery's purpose is to attract and develop Canada's best and brightest to further their education within our natural resource industry. The individual grants from the Lottery will be $500 with the sole criteria being confirmed current enrollment in an earth sciences or mining engineering program at a Canadian post-secondary institution for 2020/21.
Winners of the Lottery will be selected at random. Draws will begin June 1st and occur biweekly until the funds run out. More information on the Lottery and how to apply can be seen here: www.ympscholarships.com.
Please Help Support YMP Fund's Mining Lottery Scholarship
Individuals and corporations who are interested in supporting Canadian students in earth sciences can donate to the Lottery either directly online (DONATE HERE) or by contacting us at: [email protected].
100% of your donations will flow directly to students. YMP Fund is a registered Canadian charity and all donations over $50 will receive a tax receipt.
The Lottery is currently funded with a minimum of $15,000 for 30 students. YMP Fund would like to thank IAMGOLD (IMG:TSX), Orefinders Resources (ORX:TSXV), Mistango River Resources (MIS:CSE) and Osisko Mining (OSK:TSX) for their generous support in seeding the Lottery.
The Lottery's goal is to shrink the mining industry's talent gap, which is undergoing new and unprecedented challenges. In particular, students and young people are facing disproportionate unemployment due to COVID-19. It is now more important than ever for our industry to respond and encourage students to study earth sciences and mining engineering.
