TORONTO, Dec. 14, 2017 /CNW/ - Adam Sherkin presents WRITE OFF THE KEYBOARD this coming Winter and Spring at CBC's Glenn Gould Studio with performances the first Thursday of every month, January through June. In a series that highlights great pianist/composers of our not-too-distant past who not only interpreted with formidable mastery, but wrote exceptional music from the piano's vantage point, the latest iteration offers an impressive line-up of guest artists, world premieres and fresh time slots: 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Steinway Piano Gallery Toronto returns as the 2018 season partner.
RACHMANINOFF: LET HANDS SPEAK on January 4, 2018 at 5:30pm: featuring guest saxophonist David Zucchi, late works by Rachmaninoff for solo piano, saxophone transcriptions and a world premiere by Sherkin.
CHOPIN: POETIC JEST on February 1, 2018 at 5:30pm: featuring actor Andrea Runge; three of Chopin's scherzi (Opp. 31, 39 and 54) are presented alongside works by Sherkin as well as newly commissioned ekphrastic monologues by David James Brock.
BEETHOVEN: LATE SOLILOQUIES on March 1, 2018 at 5:30: Release of Sherkin's new digital recording Soliloquy on the CentreTracks label with works by Sherkin and Beethoven: the late Bagatelles, Op. 126.
LISZT: PILGRIMAGE on April 5, 2018 at 7:30pm: featuring guest soprano Adanya Dunn in songs by Franz Liszt and Adam Sherkin; complete performance of Book I "Suisse" of Liszt's Années de pèlerinage.
