TORONTO, March 14, 2013 /CNW/ - For the first time world renowned Flemish sour ale Rodenbach will be available on draught in Ontario. The first draught pour will take place today at a media launch event held at Bier Markt King West (600 King Street West) at 2:30 pm in Toronto.
"Bier Markt is proud to be the first to serve Rodenbach draught in Canada," said Robert Medal, operating partner Bier Markt. "The classic Flemish sour ale is a great addition to our authentic European beer selection."
Praised by famed beer writer Michael Jackson as "the world's most refreshing beer," Rodenbach's refreshing tartness comes from blending 75 per cent fresh young ale with 25 per cent two-year, oak-aged ale.
"Rodenbach is a quintessentially Belgian beer, which is reflected in its unique taste and rich brewing tradition," says Guy McClelland, president of McClelland Premium Imports. "Described by the brewer as 'the missing link between beer and wine,' Ontario beer drinkers will appreciate Rodenbach for its distinct sweet and sour taste."
Rodenbach beers undergo a unique centuries-old brewing process utilizing over twenty strains of yeast, a complex culture of micro-flora, and three separate fermentations - the final lasting up to two years in giant-handmade oak casks. Lacto-bacilli and other micro-flora living on the inside walls of the casks slowly ferment the beer, creating the signature wine-like flavours. Rodenbach pours a deep red and has tingling flavours of green apple and red currant.
