The World Drum tour stops in Cannington Feb 20 & 21 to launch the 6th annual Cannington Dog Sled Races & Winter Festival
CANNINGTON, ON, Feb. 15 /CNW/ - The 6th annual Cannington Dog Sled Races & Winter Festival rapidly approaches with renewed anticipation with the announcement that the World Drum Project will be a featured element of the opening ceremonies. Touring the world, the World Drum Project's stop in Cannington links the event to the project's global vision that binds people across race, religion, ethnicity, colour & political conviction with Mother Earth in a common struggle for humanity.
The international flavour of the event has been further augmented with the participation of Damion Robb and the Jamaican Dog Sled Team that will be joining this year's event for a second year. Over 70 competitors from across North America will be competing with Damion for the $10,000 purse in a variety of competitive and non-competitive formats. With a sled load of his Canadian fans in the GTA region, Damion loves the fact that this event is within an hour's drive of Toronto and hopes many of his supporters will be in attendance.
Entertainment and family winter fun will continue to dominate the event with a number of terrific bands and entertainers performing on the indoor and outdoor stages on the property. The crowd favourites like the toilet seat toss, kick sledding, snow shoeing, grapefruit sling, big foot races and dog sled rides will remain as popular activities for the younger set. A major addition to the Festival this year is the indoor Kids' Zone where families can warm up and enjoy activities such as the Crayola Activity Center, Wii Computer Games, the artistry of Balloon Boy or interact with some of the creatures brought to you by the Zoo To You gang.
Take the kids on a horse drawn wagon ride, watch the ice sculpture competition, enjoy a pancake breakfast, or chow down on some of the wide array of offerings from one of the many vendors in attendance; and when evening comes, grab a giggle or two with the comedians at Comedy Night. Just try to control the excitement as race starter Jim Cunningham begins the countdown and the dogs begin to howl! It's an all-bark, no frostbite weekend that you won't want to miss.
Weekend passes for adults are $8 at the gate and children 13 and under are just $2 (or free with a button from participating elementary schools). For more information, go to www.canningtondogsledraces.com or call 705-432-2892.
