World Animal Protection and acclaimed muralist Fluke bring wildlife to the heart of Montreal's District Central
FrançaisNew mural created with Fluke's six-year-old daughter explores the connection between people, animals and the future we share
MONTREAL, Oct. 14, 2026 /CNW/ -- A new large-scale mural in Montreal's District Central is bringing together street art, animal protection and a deeply personal story about what one generation leaves for the next.
World Animal Protection Canada has teamed up with acclaimed Montreal muralist Fluke, a leading figure in Canadian and international mural art, to bring that message to life. Known for large-scale public works and high-profile collaborations, Fluke has transformed a wall in Montreal's District Central's Chabanel sector into a celebration of the connection between people, animals and nature.
At the centre of the work is Fluke's six-year-old daughter, surrounded by wildlife including a bumble bee, coyote, falcon, and a humpback whale and her calf. Each species represents a different aspect of the relationship between people, animals and nature, from biodiversity and urban coexistence to the responsibility one generation has to the next.
For Fluke, including his daughter was not simply an artistic decision. She inspired the central idea behind the mural.
"This project has given me an opportunity to reconnect with the values I care deeply about and to see the natural world through my daughter's eyes, with that same sense of wonder and curiosity," said Fluke. With this mural, I want to bring that curiosity into the urban landscape, inspiring people to pause, reconnect with nature, and become more aware of the incredible animals we share this planet with."
By painting it alongside his daughter, the process itself becomes part of the artwork's message: one generation passing on values of compassion and responsibility while also learning from the perspective of the next.
"Art can make people pause, look closely and see the world in a new way. It is a powerful reminder of the curiosity and empathy for animals that many of us develop early in life," added Colin Saravanamuttoo, Executive Director of World Animal Protection Canada. "With Fluke's daughter at its centre, this mural represents the future we are shaping and our responsibility to protect the animals and natural world we share. We hope people leave thinking about the choices we can make today to build a more compassionate future for animals and for generations to come."
The mural's location is also part of its story. It is situated in District Central's Chabanel sector, an urban and industrial area where efforts are underway to introduce more biodiversity and green space. Fluke designed the work to create a deliberate contrast between the built environment and the wildlife depicted on the wall.
"This mural perfectly embodies our desire to make District Central a distinctive industrial neighborhood, where art, creativity and nature fully contribute to the area's transformation. The fact that it was created by Fluke, an artist based right here in District Central, gives it even greater meaning," said Hélène Veilleux, Executive Director of the SDC District Central. Thanks to its scale and strategic location on Parc Avenue, it will serve as an important gateway to the neighbourhood, complementing the nearby landscaping initiatives designed to promote the return of biodiversity."
The mural is a World Animal Protection Canada initiative, developed with Fluke and produced by The Dream Catcher Production. SDC District Central provided financial support for the project made possible by the Quebec government's Fonds Signature Métropole. The finished artwork can be viewed in Montreal's District Central, in the Chabanel sector.
