QUÉBEC CITY, Oct. 3, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Québec City is especially proud to announce that it was named culture destination of the year at the Leading Culture Destinations Awards gala in London. Deputy mayor of Québec City Michelle Morin-Doyle was on site to accept the award. Québec City was selected for this esteemed title over fellow nominees Los Angeles and Lyon.
"The jury ranked our city number one worldwide," said Québec City mayor Régis Labeaume. "Our unique character and knack for innovation were deciding factors. But most of all, the jury was impressed by our bold cultural initiatives, like the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion at Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. We did not solicit this award—we were recommended by ambassadors from around the world. That makes this international recognition truly exceptional. I hope the residents of Québec City will be proud of it!"
"It's been a great year in terms of international exposure," added Québec City Tourism director André Roy. "After being named top tourist destination in Canada by Travel + Leisure in July, our innovative cultural offerings must have charmed the jury. What a wonderful showcase for Québec City as a tourist destination!"
