Windsor Essex Mobility Group: Update on Scope of Review

WINDSOR, ON, Aug. 28, 2013 /CNW/ - The Windsor Essex Mobility Group (WEMG) continues to work cooperatively and proactively to demonstrate the safety and durability of the girders fabricated for the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway (formerly known as the Windsor Essex Parkway).  We stand by our assertion that the project is safe, durable and of the highest quality.

We welcome the Minister's announcement today that the scope of the Independent Expert Review Committee's (IERC) review has been expanded to include consideration of the safety and durability of all additional girders fabricated for the project.  While we do not feel it necessary from a safety perspective to temporarily close the North Talbot Road, we are confident that the IERC's inquiries will ultimately and definitively demonstrate that the project is safe, durable and of the highest quality.

We again reiterate our support of the IERC's additional review and our commitment to work cooperatively and proactively with them.  The complex and detailed questions they are evaluating require the dispassionate, non-partisan and objective expertise of an inquiry.  This work has only just begun and it should be allowed to continue in order to reach a full, final and fair conclusion with all the facts presented and deliberated upon by the IERC's experts.

We are proud of the partnerships we have created locally to deliver this project and continue to stand 100% behind our work and our approach to safety and durability. This has been our position all along.  We have the responsibility of operating and maintaining this infrastructure for the next thirty years and have every incentive to build it to last.
