VANCOUVER, Feb. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce has announced their business awards of distinction at its prestigious Westside Business Awards. The sought-after 2011 awards saw a record number of nominees competing for the top spots in eight categories. The sold-out event, now in its eighth year, recognized some of the best businesses based on Vancouver's Westside.
This year's Westside Business Awards distinguished recipients are:
- Best in Business: Nicola Wealth Management
- Best Business Person: Michael Gokturk, Payfirma Corporation

- Best Restaurant: Hapa Izakaya

The glamorous and exciting awards event, held at the contemporary Jewel Ballroom near 8th and Granville Street in Vancouver, was emceed by News 1130 personality, Richard Dettman, and saw lululemon founder 'Chip' Wilson honoured with The Kitsilano Chamber of Commerce 'Lifetime Achievement Award'. Chip Wilson gave valuable insights and inspiration to the local business community. The much-anticipated evening also included a silent auction, live jazz and a three-course dinner for its guests and VIPs.
"The community has really raised the bar this year with the quality of nominations," says Chamber President, Julien Phipps. "It makes the judging process extremely difficult as there were several contenders in each category that could have been worthy recipients. The Kitsilano Chamber is grateful to everyone who supports and celebrates this wonderful local achievement. It serves as an excellent reminder of how much talent and spirit there is on the Westside."
The process involved an Awards Nominations Committee reviewing each application and undertaking further research of the nominated companies. Finalists were then selected for each category. These finalists were put forward to the Chamber's Board of Directors who selected the recipient they deemed the strongest overall for that category award. All finalists were recognized at the awards ceremony and gala dinner held on February 23, 2012.
