TORONTO, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - Waterloo North Hydro Inc. will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 12, 2013 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
For the past 10 years, Waterloo North Hydro Inc. has provided substantial financial assistance to Waterloo Fire Rescue's public education efforts.
A total of $10,000 has been donated to develop, print and distribute fire safety school calendars to more than 4,000 children in Grades 1 through 4 each year. With the current contribution, Waterloo Fire Rescue has been able to design and print 3,600 copies of a new activity book. The books will be distributed to children at community events and during fire station tours.
"Waterloo North Hydro's commitment to the well-being of children in the community is clearly demonstrated through its consistent support of Waterloo Fire Rescue's public education programs," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "Thanks to Waterloo North Hydro Inc., children in the city of Waterloo are educated about the dangers of fire and appropriate fire safety behaviours."
