SASKATCHEWAN, Nov. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - As Saskatchewan residents begin to receive their 2009 War Amps address labels this week, they will find enclosed a letter from CEO Cliff Chadderton explaining how the Association's Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program was inspired in part by the lessons learned in war.
"In September, we marked the 65th anniversary of the Liberation of Belgium, an occasion upon which I am sometimes asked to comment publicly, in that I had the privilege of helping free the Belgian people from Nazi tyranny," Mr. Chadderton writes.
"I left behind a leg on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. The War Amps attitude, however, of finding the good in a bad situation was my happy reward. That philosophy set the stage for our CHAMP Program, which is perhaps one of the few good things that came out of World War II," he adds.
The success of CHAMP is nowhere better illustrated than in The War Amps new documentary (funded by corporate donations) about Mark Arendz of Prince Edward Island, who lost an arm at seven in a farm accident. He credits the emotional and financial support received through CHAMP for where he is today - an engineering student and biathlete living independently.
Sent as a thank you to supporters of The War Amps Key Tag Service, address labels are not just for envelopes! They can be used to identify personal items like books, golf clubs, cellphones, organizers and cameras, as well as for filling out name and address information on forms.
