Price drops compete with Black Friday pricing south of the border
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 26 /CNW/ - Walmart Canada today is giving Canadians a reason to shop locally on Black Friday, the unofficial kick off to the holiday shopping season in the United States. Canadians can now choose between battling traffic at the border or driving to their local Walmart for big savings on thousands of brand-named products.
Black Friday is the busiest shopping day in the U.S. In order to keep Canadians shopping in Canada this weekend, Walmart is dropping prices on select products during its Big 2-Day Event November 28 and 29. Walmart customers will find extraordinary deals on televisions, video game consoles, cookware, toys, brand-named perfumes as well as food and apparel. This initiative is part of the record 18,000 price drops in November that Walmart announced last week.
"This event is another example of Walmart's price leadership," said David Cheesewright, President and CEO of Walmart Canada. "We know Canadians have a chance to buy south of the border this weekend, so we want to give our customers great deals right here in their own country. We think it makes sense for Canadians to shop, and save, right here at home."
The big two-day event offers time-limited discounts on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29 on a wide range of items, including the following:
LG 42" LCD HDTV, $778.00 (was $1098)
X-Box 360 Arcade, $149.00 (was $199)
Garmin Nuvi 255W GPS, $128 (was $ 228)
The Leapster Handheld Game Player, $30 (was $59.96)
V-Smile Motion Active Learning System, $47.84 (was $69.96)
Mega Bloks Battle Strikers Starter Pack, $10
Sunlight 4.43 Litre Laundry Detergent, $9.48 (was $18.97)
George Forman Griddle, $24.00 (was $39.96)
Hamilton Beach Toaster Oven, $24.00 (was $49.97)
With Christmas less than one month away, Canadians can shop extended hours at local Walmarts across the country. More than half of Walmart's 314 stores nation-wide are now open 7 a.m. to midnight between now and Christmas.
