VisionTV votes for She's the Mayor: network greenlights new 13-part
comedy-drama from Toronto's Hungry Eyes

TORONTO, Oct. 14 /CNW/ - VisionTV has commissioned She's The Mayor, an original comedy-drama series from Toronto-based Hungry Eyes Film & Television Inc, the multi-faith and multicultural network announced today.

She's the Mayor tells the story of a sixty-something political neophyte who unexpectedly wins a local election and must rely on a combination of instinct, guts and dumb luck to navigate the rocks and shoals of city politics.

VisionTV has given the green light for Hungry Eyes to produce 13 half-hours, said Mark Prasuhn, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Content Officer for the network's parent company S-VOX.

"We were won over by the well-developed characters and the rich comic potential of the premise," Mr. Prasuhn said. "At the program's heart is a dynamic female character who defies what others expect of an 'older' woman and seizes the opportunity to start a new chapter of her life - an idea we believe will resonate with VisionTV's viewership."

She's the Mayor was created for VisionTV by Jennifer Holness, Min Sook Lee and Sudz Sutherland.

Ms. Holness and Mr. Sutherland collaborated previously on the award-winning feature film Love, Sex & Eating the Bones and the acclaimed television mini-series Guns, which made its national television premiere in September.

Ms. Lee is a documentary filmmaker whose 2005 production Hogtown: The Politics of Policing won the award for Best Canadian Feature Length Documentary at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival.

Joan Jenkinson, Director of Independent Production for S-VOX, said VisionTV hopes to broadcast She's the Mayor in the fall of 2010.

"The Hungry Eyes team brings a wealth of filmmaking expertise to the table, along with firsthand knowledge of how City Hall really works," Ms. Jenkinson said. "We are delighted to be working with such talented and accomplished creators, and we have faith that She's the Mayor will prove a hit with our audience."

She's the Mayor was chosen from among the 280 submissions that VisionTV received in response to a recent call for dramedy series proposals. The network invited projects that would reflect Canada's cultural diversity and appeal to VisionTV's core demographic of female-skewing viewers aged 50-plus.

VisionTV (, an S-VOX company, is Canada's multi-faith and multicultural broadcaster, dedicated to entertaining and insightful programming that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding and tolerance among people of different faiths and cultures.
