Video B-Roll available via CNW - Video Updates of NRU Return to Service

TORONTO, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - The following B-Roll is available by Broadcast On-Demand web download:

STORY SUMMARY: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) top priority is returning the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor to service as safely and as quickly as possible. AECL has released the following videos to provide more information on the NRU Return-to-Service Plan.

First Video:

AECL's Senior Vice-President and Chief Nuclear Officer, Bill Pilkington, outlines the complex process involved in conducting the weld repairs on the NRU reactor vessel. Mr. Pilkington explains in greater detail the stress analysis performed upon completion of each weld, including laser profilometry, a process whereby a laser beam is used to measure the stress incurred by the reactor vessel during the repair. With the repairs fully underway, Mr. Pilkington informs viewers that AECL is working in parallel to upgrade other parts of the reactor and how the process has begun to reassemble the reactor vessel in those areas where repairs have been completed.

Second Video:

AECL's Extended Activities Project Team Leader, John Lee, highlights the activities performed by his team of experts who are using the extended outage of NRU to increase the reactor's long-term reliability. Mr. Lee explains that the shutdown of NRU has presented AECL with a unique opportunity to perform tasks that could not be executed during NRU's regularly scheduled outages of five days every four weeks.
