STORY SUMMARY: A delegation of Alberta business leaders is on the ground in Quebec and talking with Quebec business and political leaders about boosting an already-robust trade relationship.
Beginning on May 15th, the 40-member Alberta participated in a "Quebec 101" briefing session with La Presse Editor-in-Chief André Pratte, National Bank Vice-President and Chief Economist Stéfane Marion, and Quebec Finance Minister Raymond Bachand. Delegates toured the Port of Montreal on a fact-finding mission to learn how the port can play a larger role in Canadian resource development.
The group also hosted an "Innovation Summit" that brought together technology leaders from Alberta and Quebec to talk about how the two communities can better work together. On May 16th, Canadian Oil Sands CEO and Syncrude Chairman Marcel Coutu gave a keynote address hosted by the Montreal Board of Trade that capped off a half-day of meetings focused on bringing the business communities in Quebec and Alberta closer together.
