Vancouver Island changes the world, one child at a time

VICTORIA, July 2, 2013 /CNW/ - Today, development organization World Vision launches its Just One Child sponsorship campaign throughout Vancouver Island. From July 2 until September 30, residents of the Island will come together in an effort to find sponsors for at least 1,500 children from around the world, including countries like the Philippines.

The people of Vancouver Island have already proven how generous they are toward children in need, with almost 14,000 island residents collectively sponsoring almost 18,000 children around the world.  Individually, each sponsorship of just $39 a month provides children access to basic necessities such as education, clean drinking water and nutritious food.

- Brittany King, On-air host at KOOL FM and Just One Child spokesperson

"We're hopeful and excited to bring Just One Child to Vancouver Island. The people of Vancouver Island have shown how compassionate they are toward children in need, and we're confident that together, we can make a positive difference in the lives of 1,500 more children around the world through sponsorship."

- Katie Hackett, campaign coordinator, World Vision Canada
