VANCOUVER, Dec. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - On December 29, the Vancouver Aquarium celebrated its one millionth visitor by surprising special guest, Andrew Dmitruk, with a warm greeting, which included a custom behind-the-scenes experience and a lifetime membership. Although the Aquarium hosts nearly one million visitors every year, this holiday season marked the first time its annual visitors exceeded the one million mark.
"What an amazing surprise," says Andrew, Vancouver Aquarium's one millionth visitor of 2012. "I knew it would be an incredible day exploring the Aquarium, but this just makes it a truly spectacular one!"
As part of the celebration, the Aquarium presented Andrew with an experience-of-a-lifetime package, which includes a lifetime membership to the Vancouver Aquarium, VIP access to 4-D theatre, complimentary lunch and a custom behind-the-scenes tour.
"We've come very close to reaching the one millionth visitor milestone at the Vancouver Aquarium but this is the first time in history that we've reached it—what an incredible accomplishment for all our staff and volunteers," says Karen Howe, Vancouver Aquarium director of visitor experience. "A huge thank you goes to our members and visitors, near and far, for their constant support and for helping us conserve aquatic life."
As a self-supporting, non-profit society, Vancouver Aquarium visitors directly contribute to its extensive conservation, research and education programs. Every visit to the marine centre directly contributes to its conservation efforts, such as marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, killer whale research and national direct action programs like Ocean Wise™ and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup™.
