Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce Resolution to be tabled at the United Nations on
October 19: VANOC CEO to address UN General Assembly

NEW YORK, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada and the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will present the Olympic Truce Resolution for the 2010 Winter Games at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Monday, October 19 .

VANOC Chief Executive Officer John Furlong will introduce the resolution entitled "Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideals" before the United Nations General Assembly in the afternoon session of Monday, October 19 .

As part of commemorating the Olympic Truce, it is tradition for the Host Country of the Games to present a resolution at the UN calling on the world to celebrate the principle that sport can inspire peace during the Olympic Games. As a member country of the UN, the Government of Canada is facilitating the presentation of the resolution.
