UPS salutes 15 years of exceptional business in Fredericton
UPS Canada thanks employees and the community on 15th anniversary
FREDERICTON, Aug. 12 /CNW/ - This year, UPS Canada marks the 15th anniversary of the UPS Canada Customs Brokerage office in Fredericton. Employees and their families will celebrate the milestone this Sunday with a family picnic and activities.
"When we opened the brokerage office in Fredericton, we knew it was a sound decision," said Shelley Gares, vice-president of brokerage, UPS Canada. "The number of employees has almost doubled in the past 15 years, and approximately one-third of employees have been here since the beginning. Our employees share UPS's commitment to efficiency and excellent customer service. I can't thank them enough for their continuous hard work and dedication."
UPS Canada opened its doors in Fredericton in 1995, and today employs more than 500 people. Last year, UPS celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Customer Service Centre in Moncton, which is also where UPS's finance and accounting office is located.
"The phenomenal growth of UPS in Fredericton and the province of New Brunswick is a reflection of the great employees we are able to attract and the positive business environment in these communities," said Gares.
And it's not only UPS that has benefited from its decision to invest in Fredericton. In the past 15 years Fredericton Brokerage employees and UPS have contributed over $1.8 million to the community through grants, United Way donations, corporate matching and fundraisers.
"UPS and its employees have been outstanding leaders in supporting the work of United Way funded agencies in central New Brunswick," said Brian Duplessis, executive director of the local United Way. "With more than $1 million pledged since coming to Fredericton in 1995, they have demonstrated, year after year, their commitment to helping those among us who need our support."
In addition to the community grants and employee contributions to local charities, UPS employees also volunteer countless hours to various organizations.
The fifth-annual UPS Kids' Tennis Day was held this June, an event exclusive to Fredericton. This year 80 children participated in professional on-court instruction and received a new tennis racquet, courtesy of UPS Canada, to sharpen their skills.
"Being in business for over 100 years provides a lot of experience," says Gares. "We have found that growing by investing in the communities where we live and work is just as important as growing by investing in our business. The Fredericton Customs Brokerage office is a perfect example of this."
