VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 8, 2012 /CNW/ - Remedy Canada, the newly established, Vancouver-based production company focusing on high-quality, unscripted television programming, primarily in the lifestyle and entertainment realms, announced today that veteran producer Toby Dormer is its new president, overseeing development, production and all business operations.
A Canadian resident (Dormer's wife is also Canadian), Dormer is originally from the UK, where he established his first production company, Remedy Productions, in 2003, alongside business partner Juliet Borges. After growing into the largest independent producer of youth- and music-based entertainment programming in the region (Dormer and Borges produced 1,500+ hours of original programming per year for broadcasters including MTV, Channel 4, ITV, Sky, and the BBC), Remedy Productions was acquired in May 2011 by London-based media company Argonon, headed by CEO James Burstall, an award-winning producer of television and film.
Argonon is also making a significant investment in Remedy Canada.
Said Dormer, "It's exciting to be launching Remedy Canada in Vancouver, and to be working with the extraordinary talent that resides here. Our goal is to develop in Canada a broad range of highly entertaining lifestyle formats with compelling stories that are embraced by Canadian audiences, and to bring that programming to the world."
Added Burstall, "In Toby Dormer, Remedy Canada has secured an extremely creative, experienced and progressive leader; his background and vision for the company will provide broadcasters with exciting new avenues for developing unique talent, and delivering top-quality content."
Argonon is the parent company of London-based Leopard Films (Cash in the Attic), run by producer Todd Austin, and New York-based Leopard Films USA (House Hunters International, Man Caves), run by executive producer Nick Rigg.
