University Student Set To Break World Record Crossing Lake Ontario In Support Of Emily's House

TORONTO, Aug. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - Retracing the original route of Marilyn Bell, Rebekah Boscariol, age 20, will swim across Lake Ontario from Niagara On The Lake to Marilyn Bell Park in Toronto. 

Rebekah first swam the 52-kilometre route in August 2011 in 15 hours and 33 minutes, just 23 minutes shy of the women's speed record of 15 hours and 10 minutes.   Nevertheless the funds raised from her swim resulted in Rebekah becoming the largest single donor to the Hospital for Sick Children that year.

Rebekah's goal is to be the fastest female to swim Lake Ontario and raise $40,000 for Emily's House, Toronto's first children's hospice.  As part of the Philip Aziz Centre, Emily's House provides care for children living with life limiting illnesses and support for their families, when there is no cure.  To donate go to http://www.philipazizcentre.ca/swimming-across-lake-ontario/ 

Rebekah starts her swim from Niagara On The Lake on Friday August 22, 2014 at 6pm

Raised in Markham Ontario, Rebekah has been a competitive swimmer for 13 years and is the eldest of six children.  She is in her third year of studying kinesiology at Dalhousie University.
