FORT MCMURRAY, AB, June 24, 2014 /CNW/ - A group of 13 unions whose members perform maintenance work on large industrial facilities in the oil sands and elsewhere in Canada has donated $400,000 to the Northern Lights Health Foundation, which will benefit the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray.
The donation was formally presented today at a meeting of the General Presidents' Maintenance Committee (GPMC).
"It's extremely important to us to invest not only in our members but also the wider community," said GPMC Vice Chair Jack White. "We hope our donation will help the community, our members, and the many workers from across Canada who have made Fort McMurray either a temporary or permanent home.
"Although we continually strive for zero workplace incidents, our members depend on this hospital for high quality health care," said White. "This donation shows our appreciation for everything this hospital has done for our members and other employees who work in the construction industry."
