Images, commentary and costing information to be made available to media through special access site
OTTAWA, Ontario - UBM TechInsights will begin analysis on the new iPad shortly after its North American release. Media will be given early access to unique images, commentary on design wins and Bill of Materials (BOM) information. A special landing page has been set up for media to access the information as it becomes available.
UBM TechInsights will also release a Quick Turn teardown on the new iPad on March 16. This report, which media can request a copy of, will contain a first look at the construction and components, including some disassembly sequence photos and selected IC board images. UBM TechInsights will use de-encapsulation techniques to verify the major IC components, including unmarked and Apple-branded semiconductors.
Additional analysis is planned, including a more detailed teardown, IC design overview, and structural analyses of the individual components. These analyses will be released at a later date.
UBM TechInsights completed a preliminary BOM analysis based on previous costing history and estimates on the major components of previous generation iPads. An updated BOM will also be available.
