Two wounded in off-road collision in Gatineau Park

OTTAWA, Aug. 23, 2017 /CNW/ - On the evening of Tuesday, August 22, a vehicle was involved in an incident in Gatineau Park, on the Champlain Parkway, Chelsea sector, resulting in an off-road collision wounding two people.

A young female driver from Gatineau would have lost control of her vehicle in a sharp curve in the road near the MacKenzie King Estate, hitting a tree head on and stopping in the ditch. The parkway was wet and fog was in the area at the time of the incident.  The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital in serious condition. Their injuries are not life‑threatening.

The RCMP is investigating the specific circumstances of the collision, but speed is likely a contributing factor. Charges may be laid against the driver at a later date. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP National Division Operational Communications Centre at 613-952-4200.

The RCMP is reminding motorists that the speed limit in Gatineau Park is 60 km/h. We also encourage motorists to be very cautious and vigilant, especially at night, as parkways can be dangerous, due to the winding configuration, weather, but also because of the many animals that may be out of the woods looking for food.

The RCMP thanks Gatineau police service for their assistance during this intervention.
