Two innovative Laval businesses can acquire specialized equipment and create 25 new jobs

Government of Canada awards $470,000 to GA International and SMT Hautes Technologies

LAVAL, QC, Sept. 15, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Businesses need to be able to rely on adequate resources to create and commercialize innovative products. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting innovative Canadian enterprises. As a true economic driver, innovation is the key to success because it generates growth that benefits businesses and communities.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, Yves Robillard, Member of Parliament for Marc-Aurèle-Fortin, announced that GA International and SMT Hautes Technologies have been granted a total of $470,000 in repayable financial contributions. The funding has been awarded through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP).

The support for GA International will help the company consolidate its operations in the life sciences niche by acquiring automated equipment for producing, printing and cutting adhesive labels. The investment in SMT Hautes Technologies will help this SME purchase new digital equipment designed to inspect the components of its four electronic circuit production lines and to launch a commercialization strategy in the United States.

"I am very pleased about the Government of Canada's support for these two bold and innovative Laval businesses. The contributions will help them continue to develop and generate economic growth, as evidenced by the 25 new high-quality jobs that will be created through these projects."

Yves Robillard, Member of Parliament for Marc-Aurèle-Fortin

"By helping businesses invest in equipment and machinery that will make them more productive and by encouraging product commercialization and market development projects, the Government of Canada is standing by its commitment to stimulate expansion, innovation and exports."

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED

"The financial assistance from the Government of Canada is helping us make our vision and our plans for growth and expansion a reality. The acquisition of better equipment that is even more highly specialized is a giant step in that direction."

Gourgen Ambartsoumian, President, GA International

"This is a stimulating project that will not only increase our productivity, but also foster our international growth. We plan to take part in trade shows, develop promotional and marketing tools and upgrade our website. These are exciting challenges for the entire SMT Hautes Technologies team."

Stéphane Deschênes, President, SMT Hautes Technologies
