LOS ANGELES, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Renowned Spanish actress Maria Luna will play the featured role of Lina in the forthcoming sci-fi feature film series, Space Command. The series was funded with more than $221,000 using Kickstarter.com and filming is set to commence in September.
Hugo Award nominee Marc Scott Zicree is directing, writing and producing the films. Zicree is known for writing The Twilight Zone Companion book, and for writing on the 1980s CBS Twilight Zone series, Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II, and Fox's Sliders. "Intelligent, dedicated, talented and good-hearted, Maria Luna is a sheer joy to work with and a solid professional who makes every production far better by her participation in it," he said.
The films will span 140 years and tell the story of several generations of three families as mankind journeys out into space, colonizing the moons and planets of the solar system.
Special effects master Neil Johnson, named the Fifth Street Cinema Review Filmmaker of the Decade, is producing. Oscar and Emmy award winner Doug Drexler (Dick Tracy, Battlestar Galactica) will handle visual effects for the films.
"Marc, Neil and Doug are sci-fi visionaries," said Luna, who acted in Johnson's Bipolar Armageddon, Alien Armageddon, Alien Dawn and the upcoming Starship: Rising. "The series will be an epic adventure and I look forward to being part of this story that will take audiences to an alternate galaxy unlike any they've seen before."
Luna acted in Gia Coppola's upcoming drama Palo Alto starring James Franco (Spider-Man), Emma Roberts (Aquamarine) and Val Kilmer (Heat). In 2010, she played Maya Deimos in Id, a mystery feature from director Kevin Kunze.
Luna trained at the Actors Circle Theater, Stella Adler New York, UCLA and the University of San Francisco. She's acted in the Maker Studios series, La Chamba, and Maker's I Love Lucy adaptation. Luna has also acted in Barbara Kerek's Forrest Gump adaptation, David Mireles' Split Identity, in the TeleCinco TV series Los Serrano and in the web series, LA Tap Water.
