Overfilled propane cylinders pose a safety risk and should be properly disposed of
TORONTO, May 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), Ontario's public safety regulator, is warning Windsor residents who have had their 20lb propane cylinders refilled at the Canadian Tire located at 8505 Tecumseh Road East since Friday, May 9 to contact the store to have the propane cylinder examined to determine if it has been overfilled.
Working with the Windsor Fire Department, TSSA inspectors have determined that 101-20lb propane cylinders were refilled for customers at the 8505 Tecumseh Road East Canadian Tire location since last Friday. The propane filling facility has since been shut down and the incident is under investigation.
Overfilled propane cylinders could vent and pose an imminent fire and explosion risk if the propane comes into contact with an ignition source.
Anyone who believes they may have one (or more) of these overfilled cylinders (i.e. refilled at the 8505 Tecumseh Road East location between Friday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 13, 2014) should contact Canadian Tire at 519-948-8111 to have the propane cylinder examined and if required, properly disposed of by trained personnel.
